Sometimes the weight of racism and injustice is enough to bring me to my knees and make it hard for me to get out of bed. I used to fight against these feelings when I thought my value was based on my productivity. Now, as a new disciple of The Nap Ministry, I am consciously

un-learning that association, which is a byproduct of white supremacy culture.

I am learning to rest. I am learning to find hope. I have been grappling with what exactly hope can look and feel like in this moment, and I came up with these lists.

 Hope looks like:

Looking forward to FaceTimes with people I love

Reruns of old TV shows (currently Gilmore Girls)

Working on exciting projects

Collaborating with people I love

Being in the presence (virtually, fam) of people that challenge and support me

Hope feels like:

Jumping in the ocean

A hug from my mom

The sun on my skin

The taste of my favorite tea

My sister making me laugh till my belly aches

I invite you to make your own list of what hope looks like and feels like for you these days. Revisit it often, and ground yourself in the things that bring you joy. Here's to holding on to hope, even when all seems so dire.
With love— Sinikiwe
